Ruakaka School’s magnificent trip to Kelly Tarltons
The great big stingray glided by, slapping its wing on the strong plastic tank, spraying water everywhere. “Wow!” gasped the school. We spent about ten minutes watching the feeding of the stingrays, which was very interesting. They were amazing. They swam in circles around the lady, Ray, as she carefully stuffed halves of fish into their mouths. Sometimes they rose up out of the water, flapping their wings furiously to keep their mouths above the water so Ray could stuff some food down into their mouths. They obviously enjoyed that. We spent ages either watching the stingrays and fish or in the playroom.
Our next stop was the conveyor belt. They called it the shark tank. It had a neat conveyor belt that went round and round the shark tank. There were a number of sharks in there. They were quite interesting because of their long thin tails. There were other fish in there too. There were HUGE kingfish and other fish which were swimming over top of us. It was so neat.
After that we went upstairs to a rather dark room, which was full of big glass aquariums. They were full of piranhas and eels. There was also a tank that had two or three sea horses in it. They really stood out to me. They were swimming lazily around their tank, bobbing gently up and down in the water. Along their backs they had a fin which was rippling gently in the water. Their tails were thick and long, perfect for grabbing things. It was very similar to a Monkeys tail. Their mouth was so cool, it was long circular, which I thought especially attractive. Just right for browsing through the sand.
I liked Kelly Tarltons,I would have liked it if they had a turtle or maybe a few different sharks. It was a great trip and I am very grateful to the teachers who organised it.

My day at Kelly Tarltons.
On one sunny hot Friday the whole school went to Kelly Tarltons for the day. On the way there we stopped off at the park to have some morning tea. We were the first bus there. After we had morning tea we got back on the bus and headed to Kelly Tarltons.
When we got there, there was a big road and we were parked on the other side. We could not cross the road safely all together at once. So Mr O lead us to a building that took us down some stairs and then I noticed that we were going underground to get to the other side of the road.
When we were on the other side me and my friends saw some painted penguin feet and me and my friends started jumping on them like little rabbits. When we got into Kelly Tarltons it was very cold, but luckily I was wearing my jumper at that time.
When we got into the place we went to see the stingrays, and a lady went in to the tank and started to feed them. Another lady was holding the microphone and said the names of the stingrays. They were B.2, molly, and Phoebe .
When it was time to move on to the next show we all moved down to see the crayfish. From what I could see there was about 17 crayfish in that tank. Right at the back there was the big king crayfish. It was huge! I got hungry when I was Looking at that crayfish. In the tank beside them there was eels, big slimy eels. There was about 20 eels in that tank. Later on we helped a man feed the eels, they eat oysters.
The day was very exciting. My favourite part was seeing the stingrays. At the end, I got tired and fell asleep on the bus for about an hour. That was the greatest day in the week for me.

My trip to Kelly taltons
It was a cool trip on Friday because we went to Kelly taltons. I was on bus2. Our whole school went.
First when we arrived at Kelly taltons we saw stingrays and a eagle ray. They are humongous. Ray was the lady that went into the water to feed the fish and the stingrays. The stingray was all over her. The biggest and oddest was phoebe. The glass was as thick as my deck. It seemed closer when you look in the glass.
After that we went to see the sharks, there were lots of them. Some had 7 lines across their gills. Some had 5. There were two paths on the left side you had to walk by your self on the other half it moves you across to see all the fish. We came across a sigh that said pigfish. It’s a kind of fish that all ways female and only one male. When the male dies all the females have a big fight the strongest turns into the male.
Later, after seeing all the fish and sharks, Room 3 and Room 4 went up to the classroom to learn more about the animals. Did you know that the penguins with black and white the males likes the females then the males go and find the prettiest pebbles on the beach to give it to the female. if the female like it they will go off and build a nest. The king penguins do some kind of dance. If the penguins egg breaks Kelly Taltons swaps with a plastic egg and take the real egg back to have a check and then put salatape on it. Then swap it back.
That trip was amazing. I hope that they will have more things like turtle. I next time I visit I would love to take my family there for a holiday.
